“Powerhouse brims with performance boosting strategies. A complete, practical and super-charged toolkit for anyone wishing to optimise their personal and professional effectiveness”

Catherine Bourne, Director, Leornian Consulting

“An easy reading insight into becoming an effective ‘powerhouse’ of delivery. Making the most of every hour and getting the most out of everything you put into your business is vital, for that reason this book is a must read.”

Robert Allison, Managing Director, Expense Reduction Analysts

“Are you looking for outstanding productivity and exceptional outcomes? This book promises to teach you how to achieve these goals.

As an ex public sector manager and now freelance factual health writer, I suppose I bristle a little at the concept of this book. I work to the highest standards I can attain within the constraints placed upon me - sometimes 'good enough' is acceptable, sometimes only 'perfect will do' eg when publishing an academic textbook. Pragmatism and realistic goals are better counsel for me. I don't think I am personally aspiring to the 'some form of lifetime achievement you can be proud of' other than being thought of as kind.

Setting aside these reservations, and the jargon the author employs ('Master Switch'?, 'Power Switch'?) however, this is not a bad book at all once you drill down to the detail. The suggestions are by and large sensible, and the book is well designed with plenty of graphics, and good use of sub-headings and bullet point lists, but thankfully NO irritating cartoons and NO quotations from the Dalai Lama or Yoda (I am not joking, I have seen these in management books). Chapters conclude with a punchy summary - another welcome feature.

The brisk pace and plenty of content packed into the nearly 200 pages of this book make it a relatively easy and rewarding read, so if you are a manager who wants to work smarter rather than just work harder (my words) then this book would be a sensible investment."

Ms. C. R. Stillman-Lowe

“There are a plethora of motivational books out there - each one, to a certain extent, recycling much the same set of ideas and rules - but using different different examples and terminology.

Mike Clayton sets out his wisdom clearly, and this is a very readable book , jam-packed with genuinely useful advice."

G. J. Oxley

“I like the structure, tone and style of this book.

Whilst some of the content isn't exactly original, the manner in which it's presented, and the way Clayton makes you think about the topic, does feel fresh. Because of this, I'm willing to be more forgiving on my rating for this, than I am compared to some of the other productivity books being produced on the never-ending self help mill.

Power House is actually a great little inspirational desk reference, and I've already found myself referring back to specific highlighted elements and chapters, even after my first read-through."
